Drill is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in Chicago streets in the early 2010s. It is to trap and gangsta rap. Drill music progressed into the American mainstream circa 2012 following the success of rappers like Chief Keef, Lil Durk, Lil Reese, Fredo Santana, G Herbo, Lil Bibby, and King Louie. Chicago drill re-emerged since 2018 with artists such as King Von, Polo G and also with a renewed Lil Durk, also influencing many local artists with the  media attention and the signing of drill musicians to major labels followed.

1) Chief Keef

 Chief Keef real name is Keith Farrelle Cozart (born August 15, 1995). He is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. His music first became popular during his teen years in the early 2010s among high school students from Chicago's South Side. In 2012, his popular local single "I Don't Like" was remixed by American rapper Kanye West and reached the Billboard Rap Top 20. 



A bidding war between major labels resulted in Keef signing with Interscope. His debut album Finally Rich was released in December 2012, and featured the singles "I Don't Like" and "Love Sosa", which would popularize the Chicago rap subgenre drill. Though he was dropped from Interscope in late 2014 and later signed to 1017 Records, he continued self-releasing projects through his own Glo Gang label. As of the late 2010s, critics have pointed to Chief Keef as the progenitor of the drill subgenre, noting the impact of his music on other artists.


2) Lil Durk 

Lil Durk real name is Durk Derrick Banks (born October 19, 1992). He is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. He is the lead member and founder of the collective and record label Only the Family (OTF). Lil Durk garnered a cult following with the release of his Signed to the Streets mixtape series (2013–2014), which lead to a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. Lil Durk was later signed to Alamo Records in July 2018

In April 2020, Durk made his first appearance as a lead artist on the Billboard Hot 100 with the single "Viral Moment" off his fifth studio album, Just Cause Y'all Waited 2 (2020). Lil Durk releases a joint album with Lil baby-The Voice of the Heroes (2021) which became his first release to debut atop the Billboard 200. His 2022 release 7220 became his second consecutive number one album.


3) G Herbo

G Herbo (formerly Lil Herb) real name is Herbert Randall Wright III (born October 8, 1995). He is an American rapper from Chicago.G Herbo is signed to Machine Entertainment Group. He has released the mixtapes Welcome to Fazoland (2014), Pistol P Project (2014), Ballin Like I'm Kobe (2015), and Strictly 4 My Fans (2016). 

His studio albums are his debut Humble Beast (2017) and with Southside of 808 Mafia, Swervo (2018), his first major release through Epic Records. His third studio album, PTSD (2020), became his first top-ten entry on the Billboard 200, while his fourth album, 25, was released in 2021, and marked his first release through Republic Records.


4)King Von

King Von real name is Dayvon Daquan Bennett (August 9, 1994 – November 6, 2020), He was an American rapper from Chicago, Illinois. He was signed to Lil Durk's record label Only the Family and Empire Distribution.

King Von soon acquires an important notoriety thanks to the songs Crazy Story and Took Her to the O,a song that reaches the forty-fourth position of the Billboard Hot 100 , and for the studio album Welcome to O'Block, which also placed fifth on the Billboard 200


5)FBG Duck

FBG Duck real name is Charlton D. Weekly t (December 6, 1993-August 4, 2020) born in Woodlawn, Chicago, Illinois. He was an American rapper. He was best known for his hits "SIide". He was signed to the RECORDS division of Sony Music Entertainment. He was released his earliest music in 2011. 

His song "Slide" received over 62 million views on YouTube. A remix of the song featuring 21 Savage was released shortly afterwards. He was shortly thereafter signed to the RECORDS division of Sony Music Entertainment. On August 4, 2020, Weekly was shot and killed in the Gold Coast district of Chicago. He was 26.
